Flood Monitoring in Rural Areas of the Pearl River Basin (China) Using Sentinel-1 SAR

Flood hazards result in enormous casualties and huge economic losses every year the Pearl River Basin (PRB), China. It is, therefore, crucial to monitor floods PRB for a better understanding of flooding patterns characteristics PRB. Previous studies, which utilized hydrological data were not successful identifying rural remote regions Such are key supplier agricultural products water resources entire Thus, an analysis impacts could provide useful tool support mitigation strategies. Using 66 Sentinel-1 images, this study employed Otsu’s method investigate explore flood across from 2017 2020. The results indicated that mainly located central West (WRB), middle reaches North (NR) East (ER). WRB is more prone hazards. In 2017, 94.0% flood-impacted croplands WRB; 95.0% inundated (~9480 hectares) also WRB. most vulnerable areas sections Yijiang, Luoqingjiang, Qianjiang, Xunjiang tributaries lower Liujiang. Our highlight severity region emphasize need policy overhaul enhance control ensure food safety.
